I loved waking up to read this story. Now I am recalling all our rubbish bins used to be decorated with lost and abandoned teddy bears that the bin collectors had lovingly retrieved. I don’t see them anymore. I will have to investigate!
I've only seen grubby soft toy mascots strapped to the front of the rubbish trucks - I presume they were salvaged. Presumably being paraded like that also gives the chance for them to be identified by their owner and repatriated.

I like the idea that the bin drivers were caring of the teddies and acted as temporary undertakers!
